Based on a short story by Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings, the plot builds slowly but surely; by the end, we’re completely invested in what happens to Mattie, and rooting for her all the way. For viewers, there isn’t a whole lot here that saves us from simply wanting to be away from the sad, pathetic goings-on.

She has given up society, but is a woman of property. The girl appears very innocent, and Mattie is also angry at Trax for eagerly exploiting such a young woman, and realizes she has similarly been taken in by his charm. It’s been produced well for what it is – and Nunez has efficiently…and a little too effectively…captured the story he set out to tell. Very Good/No Jacket. 18 x 11. Wonderful.
